Version 1
Accessibility Statement
Effective date: the date shown in your member account, onboarding flow, or checkout confirmation.
Operator: Jaybird Sim Center (“Jaybird,” “we,” “us,” “our”), operating at 2550 N Thunderbird Cir #132, Mesa, Arizona 85215 and any successor or additional locations.
You (“Visitor,” “Member,” “you,” “your”): any person who uses the Jaybird website or member portal, or who visits our Facilities.
This Statement describes Jaybird’s commitment to accessibility, the standard we build to, the specific measures we have implemented on our digital properties, the limitations we know about, what accessibility looks like at our physical facility, and how to request an accommodation or tell us something is not working. It supplements the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy, and it is written to be honest rather than promotional: where we have not finished something, we say so.
1. Our commitment
Jaybird is committed to making flight simulation accessible to as many people as possible. We want a person using a screen reader, a keyboard, magnification, voice control, or a mobility device to be able to learn about us, book a session, complete onboarding, manage a membership, and enjoy the Facilities.
We treat accessibility as ongoing work rather than a finished project. We fix what we find, we test as we build, and we would rather hear about a problem than have you quietly give up. If any part of Jaybird — digital or physical — does not work for you, email support@jaybirdsims.com and we will help you personally while we work on the underlying fix.
2. Standard and legal context
Our target standard is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. WCAG 2.1 AA is the benchmark most widely referenced by U.S. courts and regulators for digital accessibility.
We also aim to meet our obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which requires places of public accommodation to provide full and equal enjoyment of goods and services, and to make reasonable modifications to policies, practices, and procedures where necessary — unless doing so would fundamentally alter the service or impose an undue burden. Section 6 explains where that limit genuinely applies to motion simulation equipment.
Conformance status: Jaybird is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means most of the standard is met, but some content or interface does not yet fully conform. Section 5 lists what we know about. We have not commissioned a third-party audit or published a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT), and we will not claim one until we have.
3. Digital accessibility measures we have implemented
The following are implemented in the Jaybird website and member portal today.
| Measure | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| Keyboard operability | Interactive controls are reachable and operable with a keyboard. Our release checklist requires tabbing from the browser address bar through every interactive element on a page, confirming that Escape closes dialogs and sheets, and confirming that destructive administrative actions cannot be triggered without an explicit button press |
| Visible focus indicators | A global focus style applies a two-pixel cyan outline with an offset to every element that receives keyboard focus, so the focused control is always visible. This is applied through :focus-visible, so it appears for keyboard users without adding a distracting ring for mouse users |
| Reduced-motion support | The site honours the operating-system prefers-reduced-motion setting. When it is enabled, animation and transition durations collapse to effectively zero, smooth scrolling is disabled, and continuous decorative animations — marquees, shimmer, floating elements, soft pulses, drifting background meshes, and glow pulses — are switched off |
| Colour-contrast design tokens | Text colour is drawn from a defined bright, cool-metallic token scale rather than ad-hoc values, with the brightest tokens reserved for headings, labels, and values, and the faintest token restricted to placeholder and disabled states only — never to content you have to read. Our internal design rules explicitly rank legibility above decoration and forbid low-contrast text over translucent surfaces |
| Solid surfaces behind content you read or type | Forms, tables, and dense data sit on near-opaque panels without background blur. Translucent “glass” treatments are limited to navigation, headers, overlays, and marketing pages |
| Minimum type size | The type scale has an eleven-pixel floor and arbitrary smaller sizes are disallowed by our design rules |
| Semantic markup and labelling | Pages use semantic HTML headings, landmarks, lists, and native form controls. Form fields are associated with visible labels, hints, and error messages through a shared field component, so a screen reader announces the label, the hint, and any error together |
| Language declaration | The document language is declared as English on the root HTML element, so screen readers select the correct pronunciation |
| Automated testing in the build pipeline | An automated axe-core accessibility scan runs through Playwright against the home page, membership page, simulators page, member portal, booking flow, membership management page, admin surface, and the coming-soon page, checking the wcag2a, wcag2aa, wcag21a, and wcag21aa rule sets. The test fails the build on any violation rated critical or serious |
| Manual screen-reader walkthrough before launch | Our launch checklist requires a manual pass with VoiceOver, Narrator, or NVDA covering the marketing home page, the membership page, the booking flow, authentication and onboarding, and the admin migration surface — verifying that page titles identify Jaybird and the location, that primary calls to action are announced clearly, that navigation order matches visual order, that pricing cards announce plan name, price, and action, that FAQ accordions announce expanded and collapsed state, that resource and slot selection are keyboard reachable and announced, that errors are read after a failed confirmation, that login and signup fields have accessible labels, and that waiver text is exposed before the submit control |
| Keyboard-accessible signature capture | Where an agreement must be signed, a typed name and a click-to-accept control are accepted as valid signatures alongside the drawn signature pad, so no one is required to draw with a pointing device in order to enter into an agreement. See the Electronic Communications & E-Sign Consent |
| Optional selfie step | The onboarding photo step is optional and skippable. If operating a camera is difficult for you, continue past it and a Jaybird ambassador will take the photo at the desk, or verify your identity against your government photo ID alone |
| Text alternatives for decorative imagery | Decorative images and tracking pixels are marked as decorative or hidden from assistive technology so they are not announced as content |
4. Assistive technology compatibility
We build to standards rather than to a specific product, and we test with VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, Narrator on Windows, and NVDA. The site should work with current versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox, with browser zoom, and with operating-system magnification and high-contrast settings.
Because our JavaScript requirements are described in the Electronic Communications & E-Sign Consent, note that the member portal requires JavaScript and cookies. There is no non-JavaScript version. If that is a barrier for you, contact us and we will complete the task with you directly.
5. Known limitations and ongoing work
We would rather list these than let you discover them.
- No “skip to main content” link. Keyboard and screen-reader users must currently tab through the site navigation on each page rather than jumping straight to the main content. This is on our list.
- Partial conformance, not full. Our automated gate fails the build on
criticalandseriousviolations, which means violations ratedmoderateorminorcan currently ship. We triage those manually rather than blocking on them. - Automated coverage is a smoke test, not full coverage. The axe scan runs against eight representative routes. Deeper flows — the full onboarding wizard, compliance document upload, the admin verification queue, and the instructor surfaces — are covered by manual review rather than by an automated gate.
- Automated tools cannot find everything. No scanner detects a confusing label, an unclear error message, an illogical reading order, or a control that is technically labelled but practically unusable. Your feedback finds those; our tooling does not.
- The scheduling calendar is complex. Date grids, slot pickers, and drag interactions are among the hardest components to make fully accessible, and ours are still being refined. If you cannot complete a booking, email support@jaybirdsims.com or call us and we will book it for you.
- Motion-rich marketing pages. Our public marketing pages use ambient motion and atmospheric effects. These are suppressed under
prefers-reduced-motion, but if you experience discomfort with any page, tell us and we will suppress the effect. - Legacy styling debt. Parts of the application still use an older styling pattern that we are migrating surface by surface. Contrast in those areas may be less consistent than in newly built screens, and correcting it is active work.
- No published third-party audit. We have not yet commissioned an independent accessibility audit. When we do, we will say so here and publish the result.
We review this Statement and the underlying limitations at least annually, and whenever we ship a significant change to a core flow.
6. Physical facility accessibility
Our Facilities are at 2550 N Thunderbird Cir #132, Mesa, Arizona 85215.
6.1 The building
We aim to meet applicable ADA requirements for accessible parking, entrance, path of travel, restrooms, and common areas. If you would like to know whether a specific route, doorway, or restroom will work for you before you book, email support@jaybirdsims.com and we will describe it accurately, measure something for you, or walk the route with you when you arrive. We would much rather answer a question in advance than have you make the trip and find a barrier.
6.2 Simulator equipment has physical requirements we cannot change
This is the honest part, and it matters more than anything else in this Statement.
Motion simulators and flight training devices are manufactured equipment. They arrive with an enclosed cockpit shell, a fixed seat, a restraint system, a moving motion base, and controls positioned to replicate an aircraft. The manufacturer specifies operating limits, and those limits exist for safety and for the integrity of the device. Jaybird cannot lawfully or safely modify them, and doing so would void warranties, invalidate insurance, and defeat the fidelity the device exists to provide.
Inherent requirements can include:
- Occupant weight limits specified by the manufacturer for the seat, restraint, and motion base
- The ability to transfer independently, or with the help of a companion you bring, into and out of a raised or enclosed cockpit seat, sometimes over a sill or up a step
- The ability to be secured by the restraint system as designed
- Reach and range of motion sufficient to operate a yoke or sidestick, throttle quadrant, and rudder pedals
- Tolerance of motion, which can provoke motion sickness, disorientation, or vestibular symptoms
- Tolerance of an enclosed space, low light, projected imagery, and in some configurations a head-mounted display
These are inherent physical requirements of the equipment, not Jaybird policies, and they are not something a reasonable modification can remove. Removing them would fundamentally alter the activity within the meaning of the ADA.
6.3 What we will do
Within those constraints, we will work with you. We are glad to discuss:
- Extra time for boarding, transfer, briefing, and egress, at no additional charge
- Assistance from staff or an ambassador, and a companion or personal care attendant accompanying you at no charge
- Fixed-base or non-motion configurations where a device or bay supports one, which removes the motion tolerance requirement
- Session pacing and breaks, including shorter blocks or pauses on request
- Adjusting or omitting a head-mounted display where the device supports it
- Quieter or lower-stimulation scheduling, such as an off-peak slot with reduced ambient sound, lighting, or foot traffic
- Service animals, which are welcome in the Facilities in accordance with the ADA. Please tell us in advance so we can plan a safe place for your animal to wait during a motion session
- Instructor briefings adapted to how you learn best, including verbal-only briefings, printed materials, or extended pre-briefs
- Completing any online task with you — booking, onboarding, document upload, or agreement signing — by phone or in person if the portal is a barrier
Please raise accommodation needs before you book, or as early as you can. Some accommodations depend on which device or bay is available at a given time, and advance notice is the difference between “yes” and “not today.” We will never ask you for medical documentation to grant an accommodation. Anything you choose to tell us about your health is handled as described in the Privacy Policy, which restricts it to safety and accommodation use only.
If we cannot provide a specific accommodation because of a manufacturer limit, a safety constraint, or an undue burden, we will tell you plainly and explain why, and we will offer whatever alternative we honestly can.
7. Feedback and accommodation requests
We want to hear from you. Tell us about a barrier, request an accommodation, or ask a question about accessibility.

What helps us fix it faster: the page address or the part of the Facility involved, what you were trying to do, what happened instead, and the browser, device, and assistive technology you were using. None of this is required — a one-line message is fine.
7.1 Our response commitment
- We acknowledge every accessibility message within 3 business days.
- We give a substantive response — a fix, a workaround, a timeline, or an honest explanation of why we cannot do something — within 10 business days.
- If a fix will take longer, we tell you that, and we offer a human workaround in the meantime. If the website is blocking you, a person will complete the task with you by phone or email.
- Accommodation requests for a booked session are handled with priority and, wherever possible, before your session.
- We will not charge you for an accommodation, and we will not treat you differently, price you differently, or restrict your membership because you asked for one.
8. Third-party content and services
Parts of the Jaybird experience are delivered by third parties whose interfaces we do not build and cannot directly remediate. These include Stripe checkout and billing pages, Google Calendar invitations and scheduling views, Meta and Google advertising surfaces, third-party mapping, and any outside instructor’s or partner flight school’s own website or scheduling tool.
We choose vendors partly on accessibility, and we will raise a specific defect with a vendor on your behalf if you report one. But we do not control those interfaces and cannot guarantee their conformance.
If a third-party interface blocks you, contact us. We will complete the task with you another way — taking a payment in person or by phone, booking on your behalf, sending you the session details directly, or relaying what you need to a partner.
9. Governing law
This Statement is governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, with exclusive jurisdiction and venue in the state and federal courts of Maricopa County, Arizona. Nothing in this Statement waives, limits, or restricts any right you hold under the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Arizonans with Disabilities Act, or any other applicable federal, state, or local accessibility or civil-rights law, and nothing here is intended to discourage you from exercising those rights.
10. Changes to this document
We will update this Statement as we complete remediation work, add measures, retire limitations, or commission an audit. The revised version takes effect on the date shown in your member account or on the posted document. We review it at least annually and after any significant change to a core flow.
If a change materially affects an accommodation you rely on, we will tell you directly where we know how to reach you. Prior versions are available on request.
